RailHawks Fall to Rochester 1-0

Allan Russell made his RailHawks debut in Tuesday night's loss.

Cary, NC (July 27, 2010) – The Carolina RailHawks (6-4-6, 24 pts) fell to the Rochester Rhinos (9-5-6, 33 pts) 1-0 on Tuesday night. The RailHawks were unable to equalize after an own goal from the RailHawks’ Matt Bobo in the 68th minute.

“We didn’t take our chances,” said RailHawks head coach Martin Rennie. “We had a key chance just before they scored and we missed an open shot, and the game changes when they score. That’s what it came down to, because we possessed well, and played reasonably well. But if you don’t take your chances, and give the other team a goal, this is what happens.”

Both teams struggled to establish a rhythm early due to the weather. Goalkeeper Eric Reed came up with a fantastic save in the 26th minute to keep the game even. In the 36th minute, Floyd Franks nearly put the RailHawks on top when he ripped a shot off the crossbar.

In the 68th minute, Rochester played a tricky ball into the box, that Bobo misplayed past Reed. The RailHawks put together a furious comeback attempt in the closing minutes, only to come up short. Bobo nearly equalized the game in stoppage time with a header, but Rhinos goalkeeper Neal Kitson came up with the save.

Next, the RailHawks continue their four game home stand against the Vancouver Whitecaps on July 31, at 7:00 p.m. To purchase tickets or for more information visit the LGFCU Box Office at WakeMed Socer Park, call 919-859-5425 or visit www.carolinarailhawks.com.
