RailHawks Prepare for Playoffs in Final Regular Season Games

The Carolina RailHawks’ postseason doesn’t officially begin until Oct. 8, but the RailHawks remaining regular season games will feel like it has already begun.

The RailHawks have wrapped up the NASL Regular Season Championship and the No. 1 seed in the Playoffs. With two games remaining, they will look to create some season-ending momentum to carry into the postseason. In 2010, the RailHawks had a strong finish to the regular season that helped spark a run all the way to the league championship finals.

“We are all pleased to have won the regular season, but we know that the next goal is the biggest goal and our goal over the next two games is to get everyone ready to play their best in the playoffs,” said RailHawks Head Coach Martin Rennie.  “It is great that we are able to finish off the regular season with two games that will have a playoff like atmosphere.”

And the final two opponents pose a great contest for the NASL Regular Season Champs.

The RailHawks will travel to Puerto Rico on Saturday, Sept. 17, before closing out the regular season on Sept. 24 against Minnesota at WakeMed Socer Park.

Puerto Rico’s Juan Ramon Loubriel Stadium has proven to be one of the more difficult places play this year. The Islanders are undefeated at home this season (7-0-5) and, they are 5-1-2 overall during the last six weeks. Like the RailHawks, they have secured their playoff seeding, No. 2, and a bye into the semifinals.

The RailHawks will continue to improve as they look to rewrite the club’s history books.  With 17 wins and 49 goals scored so far this season, the final two games present an opportunity the RailHawks will embrace.

“This is our chance to achieve records that the RailHawks have never achieved before in terms of wins per season and various other records,” said Rennie.  “For us, that is very exciting and we still have a lot of things to play for.”

Then, on Sept. 24, the RailHawks return to WakeMed Soccer Park to play the regular-season finale against Minnesota, which will likely be playing for its playoff life. The Stars currently lead Montreal by three points, but if the teams finish tied on points, Montreal currently holds the tiebreaker.

The RailHawks will send off the organization’s most successful coach with a special recognition following the game, along with a presentation for the 2011 NASL Regular Season Championship. Sept. 24 will be Fan Appreciation Night and fans will receive a 2011 team photo and an opportunity for all players signature after the game in the Wake Orthopaedics Autograph Alley.

Tickets for Sept. 24 are on sale now at the Cruizers Box Office at WakeMed Soccer Park or by visiting www.CarolinaRailHawks.com.  Playoff tickets will go on-sale on Monday, Sept. 19.  For more information on tickets and RailHawks game call the Cruizers Box Office at 919-459-8144.
