The RailHawks enter the final week of March fine tuning their preparation for the 2012 North American Soccer League season. Two preseason opponents await the team when they face off against the Charleston Battery on Thursday at 3PM and the Wilmington Hammerheads on Saturday at 2PM. Both matches are free to the public and will take place at WakeMed Soccer Park’s Field 3.
The 2012 preseason kicked off with a victory over Vancouver Whitecaps FC in the 4th Annual Hilton Garden Inn Durham Southpoint Community Shield Match. With the match tied 2-2 at the end of regulation, the RailHawks went on to claim the Community Shield Match in a penalty kick shootout (4-2). Since their victory over Vancouver, the RailHawks have continued their strong play against professional team, Charlotte Eagles, and local collegiate teams, including NCAA Champions UNC, Duke University, UNC-Wilmington, and UNC-Greensboro. RailHawks head coach Colin Clarke has been excited about the team’s performance in preseason and their preparation for the season.
“There have been a lot of positives throughout preseason,” says Clarke. “We are consistently building good attacks and playing well as a team. This last week we are going to focus on fine tuning our style of play and get ready for a competitive season.”
