Fort Lauderdale Defeats Edmonton 1-0

Andy Herron Scores the Winner for the Strikers

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (April 7, 2012) – The Fort Lauderdale Strikers opened the 2012 season at Lockhart Stadium by defeating FC Edmonton 1-0 on forward Andy Herron’s first goal as a Striker.

“Andy Herron scores the goal and does a great job keeping our guys focused,” said Strikers head coach Daryl Shore. “The guys responded very well to going a man down and I just thought the total team effort was fabulous tonight.”

The Strikers went down to ten men in the 40th minute of the match when Strikers forward Aly Hassan was shown a straight red card for a sliding tackle against an FC Edmonton defender. The Strikers had several chances at the end of the first half, but were unable to convert.

In the second half the Strikers finally broke through at the 61 minute mark when midfielder Scott Lorenz sent a curling left-footed cross toward the far side of the small area and Andy Herron broke free from his marker and scored his first goal as a Striker.
