Edmonton Earns First Point of the Season in Puerto Rico

Islanders Remain in First Place After 0-0 Draw

BAYAMON, PUERTO RICO. (April 18, 2012) FC Edmonton earned its first point of the season in a place where points come few and far between.

It was a back and forth first half at the Bayamon Soccer Complex in Puerto Rico on Wednesday evening as FC Edmonton took on the Puerto Rico Islanders for the first time this season.

The Eddies started out as the stronger side, dominating possession and stringing passes together in the middle of the field but the attack faltered in the final third, as it has so far to start the season.

Islanders’ fans trickled in to the soccer complex and as they did, their team followed. The Puerto Rico attack gained momentum as the half wore on but neither team was able to really test the ‘keepers and the score remained 0-0 as the whistle blew.

“We played well,” said FC Edmonton head coach Harry Sinkgraven. “The chances they had were because of our mistakes. Limit those and we’ll get our goal.”

The second half was much the same as the first with both teams battling for possession but neither side managing dangerous shots on net.

The Eddies were yet again solid at the back with Paul Hamilton leading the way as the captain.

Both teams had chances in the dying minutes but near misses were the story of the game.
