Wes Knight Joins FC Edmonton

NASL vet and two combine invitees signed by FCE

EDMONTON, Ab. (January 8, 2013) – FC Edmonton is pleased to announce three more signings the club has made as it continues to build the squad during the off season.

NASL veteran and former Vancouver Whitecaps player Wesley Knight joined the team as a free agent. Knight spent the 2012 season with the NASL’s San Antonio Scorpions. The 5’11”, midfielder/defender played 27 games (2,312 minutes), including four against FC Edmonton, for the Scorpions.

Continuing the club’s mandate of developing young talent, FC Edmonton has signed two players who were invited to the club’s combine in November.

Canadian-Italian Massimo Mirabelli and American-Liberian Michel Okai will both join the team at training camp in mid-February.

Mirabelli, 22, has been playing soccer in Brampton, Ontario since he was five. The 5’9” striker made his debut in the Canadian system when he was 18 and represented his country in the 2011 CONCACAF U-20 Championships in Guatemala.

Okai is a former New York Red Bull reserve team player who was born in Monrovia, Liberia. The 23-year-old, 6’ striker has also played in South America and Japan.

The two young players will have to make the team out of camp in order to secure their contracts.
