Barbara Named NASL Offensive Player of the Week

CARY, N.C. – Carolina RailHawks forward Etienne Barbara was named the NASL Offensive Player of the Week for Week 3, the league announced on Monday.

Barbara scored his league-leading third goal of the season in last Wednesday’s 2-0 win over Edmonton at WakeMed Soccer Park. Barbara struck in the 19th minute to give the RailHawks a 1-0 lead. Kupono Low hit a lot shot that was saved, and Barbara was unmarked on the backpost waiting to tuck in the chance.

It was the third goal in as many games for Barbara.

"I think it’s well deserved, not only has he scored his third goal in three games, but he created a lot of chances and played really well defensively for the team,” said RailHawks coach Martin Rennie. “So I'm really impressed.  I think he's an outstanding player and came back with a lot of confidence and fitness and I think he can do great things this season. "

It is the second straight week a RailHawk has been honored by the NASL. Brad Rusin was the Defender of the Week for Week 2.

Barbara and the RailHawks return to the field on Saturday, when they will face NSC Minnesota in their first road match of the season. The RailHawks return to WakeMed Soccer Park on May 11, when they are set to face the Ft. Lauderdale Strikers.
