CARY, N.C. – Carolina RailHawks forward Etienne Barbara has been named the NASL’s Week 6 Offensive Player of the Week, the league announced Monday.
Barbara scored three goals and had one assist in the RailHawks’ two wins last week.
This is Barbara’s third player of the week selection this season and second straight. He was also April’s NASL Player of the Month.
Barbara has scored in all seven of the RailHawks’ games this season – he leads the league with nine goals and 20 points – and he has helped the RailHawks to the top of the NASL table, with a 5-1-1 record and 16 points.
“Etienne is on top of his game at the moment and playing with a lot of confidence,” said RailHawks coach Martin Rennie. “He’s on a remarkable scoring run, and I am happy for him and the team. We’re scoring lots of goals and winning games.”
In last Wednesday’s 4-2 win over Ft. Lauderdale, Barbara assisted Pablo Campos’ 17th-minute goal and then scored the go-ahead goal on a 27th-minute penalty kick.
On Saturday in Montreal, Barbara scored in the eighth and 51st minutes of the RailHawks’ 2-1 win over the Impact. The two-goal effort broke the RailHawks’ single-season goal scoring record of eight, which Barbara set in 2009. He is also now the RailHawks’ all-time leading scorer, with 38 points.
Barbara and the first-place RailHawks put their six-match unbeaten streak (5-0-1) on the line Saturday, when they meet the Puerto Rico Islanders at WakeMed Soccer Park at 7 p.m. For ticket information, call the RailHawks box office at 919-859-5425 or visit CarolinaRailHawks.com.
