Wellman Returns to RailHawks

CARY, N.C. – Brian Wellman spent the last four years working in the RailHawks’ front office, and now he’ll move to the organization’s technical team.

Wellman will serve as coach Martin Rennie’s head scout. His duties will include opposition analysis, video review and tactical advisement as he continues working toward earning his USSF ‘A’ coaching license.

“I’ve been here since Day 1 and done just about everything here over the years,” Wellman said. “Now to shift to the team side and work with Martin, Paul, Dewan and Caleb, it’s a great place to be. We have a very specific goal this season. We will be industrious, enthusiastic and cooperate as a unit to get there.”

Wellman was the RailHawks president and CEO from 2008-10. He was instrumental in hiring Martin Rennie as the RailHawks’ head coach in Nov. 2008 and helping him revamp the roster. Wellman also launched the RailHawks’ Spread Your Wings Foundation and spearheaded major partnerships with Eurosport and Summit Hospitality. And he served on the NASL executive committee throughout the process of launching the league.

Wellman was also executive assistant to the general manager in 2006-08, where he worked on marketing , brand development, web site development, Fox Soccer channel TV broadcasts, live streaming production, merchandise, exhibition matches and community outreach. He developed partnerships with Umbro, Heineken USA/Tecate and the Raleigh Sports Council.

“Brian is incredibly passionate about the RailHawks on-field success and having him as a part of our technical staff will assist us as we work to secure a playoff spot and push for as high a seed as possible,” said RailHawks President Curt Johnson. “I am glad Brian will continue to be a part of the organization in 2011.”

The first-place RailHawks look to extend their six-match unbeaten streak and avenge their only defeat of 2011 on Saturday, when they played host to the Puerto Rico Islanders at WakeMed Soccer Park at 7 p.m. For ticket information, visit CarolinaRailHawks.comor call 919-859-5425.
