RailHawks Set Club Record With Defeat of Edmonton

EDMONTON, Canada - The Carolina RailHawks (9-1-1) set a club record on Friday night, remaining undefeated in their last 10 matches, after handing FC Edmonton a 1-0 loss at Foote Field. Matt Watson tallied his first goal of the season to lift the surging RailHawks.

In addition to the 10-match unbeaten streak, the RailHawks extended their club record winning streak to seven straight victories. The RailHawks remain undefeated away from WakeMed Soccer Park this season (4-1-0).

Both teams struggled to gain any rhythm early, playing to a scoreless first half. Pablo Campos displayed his aerial prowess throughout the first half, elevating to send multiple headers on frame.

The RailHawks finally broke through in the second half, thanks to the opportunistic play of Watson.

In the 53rd minute, Watson played the ball forward toward Etienne Barbara. After Barbara effectively shielded his defender, Watson regained possesion, split the defense, and buried it past the Edmonton goalkeeper to put the RailHawks on top 1-0.

Minutes later, league leading goal scorer Etienne Barbara streaked past the defense and confidently slammed home what seemed to be the second goal of the game.

Following the goal, the referee unclearly disallowed the goal, for what seemed to be an inadvertent whistle from the crowd.

The RailHawks continued attacking and controlling much of the possesion late to seal the 1-0 victory.

The RailHawks will look to make it eight straight victories next Saturday, June 18, returning to WakeMed Soccer Park to take on FC Tampa Bay at 7:00 p.m. For tickets visit www.carolinarailhawks.com, or call the box office at 919-859-5425. The first 500 fans to enter the stadium will receive a 2011 RailHawks Jersey Tee.
