RailHawks Still Undefeated as they beat Seattle Sounders 2-1 PDF Print E-mail

Cary, NC (Wednesday, May 28th, 2008) – The Carolina RailHawks edged the 2007 USL-1 Champion Seattle Sounders 2-1 on Wednesday night in a match that saw all of the scoring happen in the first half and the RailHawks defeat the Sounders for the first time in franchise history. RailHawks forward Connally Edozien opened the dances early in the 9th minute after receiving a ball from Martin Nuñez and flicking it in over Seattle goalkeeper Chris Eylander to find the back of the net. The sounders tied it up in the 14th minute with a penalty kick taken by Sebastien LeToux only to see one of their own, Sounders defender Noah Merl, score an own goal at the end of the first half in the 45th minute.

“Sometimes you deserve to be lucky,” said RailHawks head coach Scott Schweitzer. “We did all the right things tonight knowing when to press hard and knowing that other teams can make mistakes. It was the fruit of all our hard work finally paying off.”

The RailHawks played most of the game one man up as Sounders defender Zach Scott was ejected for a dangerous play on RailHawks midfielder Kupono Low in the 16th minute. Ahead 2-1 one at the half and playing 11 against 10, the RailHawks were able to keep the intensity throughout the second half and control most of the play. They were finally able to defeat the 2007 USL-1 Champions and earn three important points that put them in a tie for third place in the USL-1 standings.
