USL-1 College Player Draft Set PDF Print E-mail

USL-1
TAMPA, FL -- United Soccer Leagues announced the date and draft order for the annual USL First Division College Player Draft. The two-round draft will be held on January 24, 2007 at 3 pm ET via conference call with the expansion Carolina RailHawks and California Victory selecting first, respectively.

The first teams to select in this year’s draft will be the new franchises based upon the date of expansion. The remaining USL First Division franchises are ranked in reverse order according to the final 2006 regular season standings. The order of teams that were tied in points was determined using the tiebreaker items Head-to-head, Total Wins and Goal Differential, respectively. Both rounds will follow the same order unless trades occur prior to or during the draft.

Only college seniors, other college players with no remaining college eligibility, or college or high school players that have expressed, in writing, that they are forgoing their remaining college eligibility are eligible to be drafted.

Several draft selections last year had standout seasons with their club. First overall selection JP Rodriguez played in all 28 games in the back line for the expansion Miami FC. Atlanta’s First Round selection Omar Jarun saw action in 26 games for the Silverbacks while Second Round selection Jonathan Queeley played in 25 games for the Puerto Rico Islanders. After being drafted by Portland in the Second Round, Kenney Bertz eventually signed with Rochester and went on to earn All-League Second Team honors while leading the Rhinos to the USL First Division Championship Game.
