A goal in the 105th minute of play by Carolina RailHawks forward Daniel Jackson sent the RailHawks to a third straight victory over Major League Soccer’s LA Galaxy in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup.  The 1-0 victory extended the RailHawks home unbeaten streak to 23 consecutive matches.

"It was a tough result to get,” said head coach Colin Clarke.  “LA are a great team and have been one of the best teams in the country for some time.  Credit to the boys for coming up with big plays to get the victory.  We found a way to win and that’s pretty special.”

For the second consecutive match the RailHawks started Scott Goodwin in goal in place of the injured Akira Fitzgerald.  Goodwin had another big night versus an MLS opponent as the RailHawks faced a full strength Galaxy squad that included Landon Donovan and Robbie Keane.  The shutout is Goodwin’s second shutout in three U.S. Open Cup matches.

In the 105th minute, Nick Zimmerman found a streaking Jackson down the right side of the field.  Jackson’s touch took him toward goal for a one-on-one with Galaxy goalkeeper Jamie Penedo and Jackson blasted a shot into the back of the net.

Tuesday night marked the 2014 debut for RailHawks midfielder Nick Zimmerman who returned from a knee injury that sidelined him for the entire 2013 Season.
